LosstandFound’s offices at Miami International Airport handle thousands of lost items left behind by weary travelers. However, one misplaced “premise” has recently puzzled employees, at least temporarily. A Shiba Inu dog named Penelope or Penny was found near a TSA checkpoint, but her family was nowhere to be found. She found herself completely alone in her travel box.

Fortunately, Penny was acquired by LosstandFound, where MiamiDade Aviation Department (MDAD) operations expert and dog lover Rosa Garcia was there to handle the situation. To be honest, Rosa and her colleagues didn’t know what to do at first. After all, they had no idea where Penny was coming from. Is she abandoned? Was her owner desperately looking for her somewhere? One thing was clear. Penny couldn’t hide it with her other lost items until someone took it.

After spending time with a cute and smart puppy, it became clear that Penny was kind, well-trained, and hated at home. Together, Rosa and her husband Christopher, who are also MDAD operations specialists, decided to welcome Penny into her home. But only until her family comes for her. The couple were overjoyed to be caring for the most wonderful girl as if they were their own.

Three weeks later, Penny’s owner was finally able to contact the airport. It turns out that while they were traveling, Penny’s owner had a major medical emergency. But in the hurry of rushing him to the hospital, Penny was accidentally left behind.
The man was incredibly relieved to hear that his sweet pup was safe and sound under the care of such a loving family. Together, they arranged for Penny to be picked-up. And even though it was her day off, Rosa brought Penny to the airport so she and her dad could be reunited.

Both Rose and Chris were named Employee of the Month at Miami International Airport in recognition of their dedication to customer service. In our humble opinion, it is an honor worthy of it!
